Respite and Camp Recreation Programs

We have several Respite and Camp Recreation programs that cater to different care needs and disabilities. All of our programs provide a safe, barrier-free environment for individuals with disabilities. Please click on a program for more information.

Traditional Programs

Small Group Sessions at Camp Wawbeek (Ratio 3:1*, Ages 7+)

Campers who typically attend these sessions have a physical disability or challenge of any degree and/or a mild to moderate cognitive delay, or may have a cognitive functioning level close to that of their actual age, understand basic safety boundaries, and can function in a small-group of one counselor with 2 to 3 campers or 2 counselors with 4 to 5 campers.

One-on-One Sessions at Respite Camp (Ratio 1:1*, Ages 3+)

Campers who attend these sessions have medical conditions, behavior disorders or known physical aggression, and/or multiple disabilities, a severe to mild cognitive delay and require 1:1 support to function in individual or groups settings.

Specialty Programs

Transition Team program (Ratio 3:1*, Ages 14-25)

For individuals with physical disabilities transitioning out of the home and into a college/post-secondary education, employment, or independent living situation.

Pioneer Program (Ratio 3:1*, Ages 18-40)

This program is designed specifically for Wawbeek campers who are adventurous-at-heart.

Asperger's Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism Program (Ratio 2:1*, Ages 7-25)

Campers who attend this session have a primary diagnosis of Aspergers/High Functioning Autism, Tourette Syndrome/OCD, ADD/ADHD, or traits similar to those who do, moderate to no cognitive delays and are able to function in a small-group of one to two counselors with two-three campers.

Veterans Family Weekend Camp Program

A retreat for military service members and veterans and their families.

Kee-B-Waw Program (Ages 6-13)

An educational and recreational day camp program during the summer for local children who have no or very mild disabilities.

Bring-a-Buddy Program (Ages 7-14)

This unique program offers an opportunity for friends, siblings and other relatives to attend regular camp sessions with a Camper.

*Ratio 3:1 = 3 campers to 1 counselor, 2:1 = 2 campers to 1 counselor
