spotlight on a sibling

Spotlight on Siblings Program

This weekend program is devoted entirely to young people (ages 7-14) who face the special joys and challenges of having a sibling or parent with a disability.  This fun, fast-paced weekend offers a variety of activities, discussion sessions and team-building challenges.

Everyday family members with a disability are faced with obstacles and hardship. They get through it with help and love of their family and friends, but what about their siblings? The one who shares everything with them? The person that makes sacrifices and accommodations to make the family member more comfortable? Being a sibling of someone with a disability is different for everyone and yet we are all linked by the common thought that we love our sibling, no matter what.

We know the daily challenges and rewards that come with being in a family with someone who has different needs. It can be lonely, you think that no one else feels the same way, no one else has to grow up faster in order to keep with the family! At the Spotlight on Siblings weekend sibs will get to bond with others who feel just like they do. We play games and activities that are geared to having fun and learning how to be the best possible sibling you can be. We share our experiences and thoughts and grow together as a group. We will also take a trip off camp, use the ropes course, sing songs and have the best siblings weekend ever!
