Easter Seals Wisconsin is once again offering Veterans Family Camp Weekend sessions in fall and spring, for military service veterans  and their families. Veterans, along with their spouses, children, and other family members, will have a unique opportunity to meet and interact with peers adjusting to and living with similar circumstances. Families will have the opportunity to spend time with each other, away from their everyday routines, in a setting that is inviting, open and different from any other vacation or outing they might have the opportunity to experience. The grounds are fully accessible, and veterans with and without disabilities are encouraged to attend.

Veterans Family Weekends, which will be held on Easter Seals Camp Wawbeek’s 400 beautifully-wooded acres just north of Wisconsin Dells, will focus on fun and fully-accessible recreational activities available for individuals or the entire family to experience together. High and low ropes courses that include a climbing tower and zip line, crafts, campfires, fishing, and other adaptive sports and games will be available. The weekend agenda may include trips to Dells area attractions like water or theme parks. There will also be downtime for rest and rejuvenation.

Along with the recreational activities, informal groups for veterans, spouses, children, and other family members will be offered to discuss issues, share resources, or just to know that there are others in our area who share the same feelings and experiences. These sessions, run by knowledgeable and compassionate social workers or therapists, are optional.

While the weekends focus primarily on fun, participating families will have the opportunity to begin forming social and support networks that may be helpful for them as time goes on. Our goal is to provide the program at little cost to participants and we are seeking financial support for the veterans’ and families’ participation. All meals and lodging will be provided. There will be a $25 registration fee.
