We have many opportunities for VolunteeringCamp Wawbeek Work WeekendJoin us Saturday, May 9, 2009 to help get camp ready for another wonderful season. We need general help along with any skilled labor you may have. Please e-mail Ken Saville if you are interested in helping. Does your group or organization want to volunteer to do a special project? Please e-mail Ken Saville and he will help find a project that would be appropriate for your group. Volunteer to help with a Respite WeekendVolunteering at Easter Seals Wisconsin Camps is a spectacular way to show you care about helping persons with disabilities achieve success and have fun. Activities like riding bikes, taking nature walks, completing art projects, playing favorite sports and games, dancing, sledding, swimming, camping under the stars, singing, or almost anything else you or your camper can imagine give the campers a real sense of accomplishment. While volunteering, you also get the opportunity to connect personally with the campers, learning everything from their interests and hobbies, to the best way to help them get into bed at night. There is nothing better than seeing the smile on a camper's face when a counselor takes the time to get to know them, or hearing a camper say that they want to work at camp because they are having so much fun. Camp also lets you connect and make life-long friends with people who have a passion for giving of themselves. It gets to be like a family, where everyone works closely together to ensure campers' needs are met in a fun and safe way. Currently, we are looking for people to volunteer for our weekend programs at Respite Camp in Wisconsin Dells. We provide on-site room and board, as well as a brief training period. Volunteers are needed Friday at 3:00pm for training and the camp session lasts until Sunday at 4:00pm. Respite weekends count as 50 volunteer hours, during which volunteers will work one-on-one with campers with involved physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disabilities in a variety of fun camp activities, as well as assisting with personal care (toileting, feeding, showering, dressing and transferring into and out of wheelchairs). We do ask you to fill out an application and submit a reference form. After we receive these items, we will do a background check and interview you. Please contact our volunteer coordinator at 608-254-2502 or by email. |
